Dear Coaching Family,
It is with a heavy, but finally peaceful heart that I officially resign my positions as science teacher, Cross Country Coach and Track Coach at Eastside High School. I have been giving this a lot of prayer and thought over the past few weeks. I have talked to many people and have come to the conclusion that this is the right time. I had really hoped that I could "hold on" for two more years and make it to 40 years. But all of the signs are there that this should be my last one. I want to have some time to enjoy my grandchildren who live three and half hours in two directions from Greenville and my coaching and teaching obligations just left me with no time or energy to make the trips. I will still be around, subbing or helping with track and cross country meets, but I finally feel free of the responsibilities that have been on me for so many years.
I wanted to let all of my coaching family and friends to know first. I consider all of you my best of friends. By working together we have all enjoyed the successes of the common goal of helping our students to become better athletes and better people. I hope that I can still be of service to the track and cross country community and want you to call on me if my services will be helpful to you. It has been a long ride. I look back on all of the positive things that I hope will continue after I am gone - the County Track and Cross Country Meets, the Canned -Food Drive 5k, The Kevin Logan JV Meet, the Greenville-Spartanburg County Relays, and the Chick-fila-Games. These meets mean a lot to me for one reason or another and I hope that all of you in the upstate will ensure their continued success.
The year ahead will be difficult as we switch over to five classifications. Keep working together and be committed to your decisions.

Ed Boehmke is the head cross country coach at Eastside High School. Boehmke is entered in today\'s Boston Marathon and has been coaching for 28 years. Boehmke is training with Team in Training for the Mayor\'s Marathon in Anchorage, AK June 17.
